All too often we head out into the field with preconceived ideas of the type of images we want to create.
Yes, it’s good to have some images running around in your mind so that you can use them as inspiration and ideas but sometimes nature does it’s own thing and you can just sit back, click the shutter and enjoy.
Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa
Nikon D3s, 300mm, 1/500, f/5, ISO 200
We were sitting at a waterhole watching the sun going down when a few giraffe came in to drink.
We were up on the dam wall so the angles were not great so most of us just sat back, put our cameras down and enjoyed the scene.
Then nature did it’s thing.
The light was amazing, there was no wind so the water was perfectly flat and the giraffe started moving away from the water.
We could see the shot coming.
We picked up our cameras and waited.
I never had an image like this in mind and this was one of the perfect examples of just sitting back and allowing the photographic process, and nature, to run it’s course.
Until next time.
