After the Big 5 Giraffe have to be one of Africa’s most sought after wildlife subjects and this week we asked you to share your images of the world’s tallest animal.

I personally find it quite hard to photograph Giraffe and love the different types of images you all submitted to the Wild Eye Facebook page this week.  The featured image for this post – Lisl Moolma’s image – in particular is absolutely stunning and shows you what can be done when you think out of the box.

Here goes with this week’s selection of Giraffe images!

“Having a drink at Dertiende” – The lush green Kalahari after February rains, seemed to enhance the peacefulness of this scene. A herd of giraffe drinking in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.”

“We are just in total awe and in love with these gracious and gentle giants, and could spend hours watching them as they stride from one tree to the next. Drinking time is really special with their ever popular wide stance.  Then for a split second, just as they pick their heads up after drinking, they make the most wonderful shapes with the remaining water in their mouths.  A real treat to see for any wildlife enthusiast.”

“It was evening and the sun was setting over the Masai Mara. I spotted this lone Giraffe perfectly outlined against the sky and in the background, seeming to mimic the Giraffe was a lone Acacia tree.”

I felt very tiny when i saw this Giraffe walking peacefully below the tree…I felt like an intruder in the pure world of mother nature. Taken at Amboseli, Kenya.”

“Some years ago while on an afternoon game drive in The Mara Triangle in November, during the short rain season, we got surprised by a short but heavy storm as we drove back to camp. These giraffes ran for shelter and found it under this acacia tree, which was a special and rare sighting.”

“This was near Urikaruus in the Kgalagadi just before gate time. There was a family of giraffe on top of the dune across the riverbed. One by one, they all walked down the dune until just this one was left, looking down towards the rest of the group. I ‘worry’ the colours might look oversaturated. But that’s the Kgalagadi for you. This is ‘straight out of the box’ – unedited and not cropped.”

As always a huge thanks to everybody who shared their images this week.  Great to see so many images of one of Africa’s most iconic animals.
