Behind The Frame: A Delta King

Few things are as impressive as a male lion and our group of guests were fortunate enough to catch up with a beautiful specimen in the Vumbura Concession of the Okavango Delta during our recent Botswana Wilderness Safari.

We had spent most of the morning tracking this male as he moved across the concession. Traversing metre deep channels we were very excited at the potential of seeing him crossing one of these but alas, we weren’t able to locate him in time for that – this time around.

We eventually caught up with him just 500m meters away from where he had crossed a deep channel and he was still moving with intent. He was clearly not going to settle down anytime soon so we continued to move past him, anticipating his movement and trying to get ahead of him where we could sit and wait for him to walk onto us rather than continuously chasing him from the side.

We got into prime position and managed to capture brief moments where his face broke through from the surrounding vegetation.
