Masai Mara, Kenya

When photographing Buffalo we normally focus on the wide spread of the horns.  As we were watching this old boy in the Masai Mara we were all focused on the Yellow Billed Oxpecker feeding off the large animal.

After watching for a while, and trying a few different compositions, I decided to shoot the frame with a portrait orientation.  Sure, it might have taken the focus away from the buffalo’s horns but immediately focused the attention on the Oxpecker.

When you are photographing a subject don’t get stuck and try and shoot what everybody else does and how they do it.  Look at the scene, decide what draws your attention and then try and capture that in your images.

Until next time.
