The first time you see thousands of wildebeest cross the Mara River right in front of you you don’t quite know where to focus or what to photograph.  It is overwhelming.

After a few crossing I immediately started looking for certain images, this being one of them – a whole lot of wildebeest crashing into the waters of the Mara River.  This particular crossing happened late in the morning which made for very tricky lighting conditions.  When I saw the repetition and high contrast of the scene I immediately knew this was going to be an abstract monochrome image as it had everything to make it work – repetition, perfect whites and perfect blacks.

Don’t fall in the trap of trying to ‘save’ your images by converting them to black and white.  Plan for them, look for them and then create them.

Until next time.
