If there’s one part of a spotted hyena’s body that I like, it’s their ears. In this instance I was lucky enough to be right behind the animal when something caught its attention close by. It stood dead still for a moment, listening intently.

This gave me the opportunity to take this photo of the back of its ears. I just love all the scratches and scars on them. The smooth edges of the ears suggest that this is still a relatively young animal. Had it been older, they would have been nicked and tattered.

Happy shooting!
