This male red bishop was displaying for a nearby female just off the Mankwe Hide walkway in Pilanesberg National Park, a hub for bird photographers on the weekend!

Its not often you find the complimentary colors of orange or red against blue in nature and this combination immediately caught my attention. When placed against one another in a frame, these complimentary colors enhance the vibrance and contrast of one another. When you’re next out and about in the field be sure to keep an eye out for the following combinations:

  • Red against Green

  • Blue Against Orange

  • Yellow against Purple

Once you have these combinations embedded in your mind, you will start to realize that finding them in nature is sometimes not as difficult as you first think!
