The Busanga Plains are situated in the north-western part of Kafue National Park. This vast wetland wilderness gets flooded during the rainy season by several rivers and streams, expanding over a massive 750 square kilometers before draining into the Lufupa River, a tributary of the Kafue River. The floods reach their height between March and May, forcing many of the camps to close.

The only way to reach the lodges in this region is by light aircraft to the fringe of the woodlands before jumping into a helicopter for a short scenic flight to one of the lodges in the are. This short flight provides incredible photographic opportunities as you hover just meters above the massive expanse of water.
