The seasons have changed and winter has arrived.  Apart from good things like fires and red wine it also means that safari season is almost upon us.

You see, winter in the bush is amazing not only because of the fantastic game viewing and lovely chilly mornings but as winter progresses the bush things out and the photographic opportunities get better and better.  I am looking forward to getting into the bush and if you feel like grabbing your camera to join us make sure to check out some of our upcoming photographic expeditions.

Here goes with the wallpapers for May!

Wallpaper #1 – May 2012

Canon 1D MIV, 600mm, 1/1250, f/8, ISO 320

Kgalagadi Transforntier Park, South Africa

Bird photography offers various unique challenges.

In this image Andrew nailed the shutter speed as it was fast enough to get the falcon’s head perfectly sharp while at the same time getting a little bit of blur in the wings giving the viewer a nice sense of movement.  Also, the addition of the little bit of the tree at the bottom of the frame gives the images some context – grounds it if you will – as you can see where the falcon has taken off from.

Wallpaper #2 – May 2012

Nikon D3s, 240mm, 1/800, f/5, ISO 1250

Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa

It’s not always only about the lions and leopards when you are on a photographic safari.  It’s about the light!

On this particular morning we were photographing a dazzle of zebra as the sun was rising.  As the sun stuck it’s head above the horizon the light was absolutely spectacular as the shutter kept on clicking!

Wallpaper #3 – May 2012

Canon 1D MIV, 600mm, 1/1000, f/4, ISO 1000, Exp +.3

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa

The sepia conversion on this image works very well.  Not only does it hint at the environment where the image was taken but it also give the image a timeless feel.

The two cheetah, separated beautifully through a shallow depth of field, seem to mimic each other adding nice symmetry to the image.

Wallpaper #4 – May 2012

Nikon D3s, 180mm, 1/1250, f.8, ISO 400, Exp -.67

Northern Tuli Game Reserve Botswana

Sunset in Africa is a truly special time and sometimes, just sometimes, everything comes together to create that perfect moment.

As a small herd of elephants moved across the dusty plains of the Tuli this moment presented itself.  Africa defined.

The Kgalagadi is known for it’s fantastic sightings of big cats.
