Time for a look at this week’s RAW challenge! Week 6… here we go!
This week we all processed a RAW file submitted by Adrian Wright and to say it was a tough one is an understatement. I received quite a number of emails from people saying they tried but can’t get it right or that they don’t even know where to start.
Hey, that’s why we’re doing these posts. Great way to learn and share!
Before we get to the live process and a look at next week’s image here is a gallery of all the images we received this week. Have a look through them and then watch the video in which I share some thoughts on the different ways you guys processed the RAW file.[gdl_gallery title=”rawedit5″ width=”125″ height=”125″ ]
I received the last two images from John Daly and Sherie Taylor just as I uploaded the video. Both these edits shows vari0us points discussed in the video and again shows the wide range of color casts people came up with. Difficult thing to manage and get right but with a bit of practice not too much of a mission!
With that all said, here goes with a quick look at all the image and then Wild Eye Ambassador Andrew Aveley runs you through how he would process the image. Always nice having other people’s input and it was great to have him get stuck into this image!
In the video I mention Sherie Taylor’s website. Sherie has been sending in some lovely results to these RAW challenges but the reason I included her website was that when you look at her portfolios you can, even from the thumbnails, see that it is a great portfolio – color, different subjects and not just one approach to all the shots. Check out the video and then check out he site. Oh, and the sequence of a leopard kill is the stuff wildlife photographers will get really excited about – amazing sighting!
So anyway, now it’s time for something completely different.
This week we will be working on a landscape supplied by Mark Dumbleton. This will be the first landscape image in this series of posts so I am very excited to see what you guys can do with this one.
If you have not been to Namibia here is your chance to process an image from the legendary Dead Vlei – a landscape photographers paradise!
This is the file we will be working on this week!
To download the file simply click on the above image, save Zip file, unzip the file and import the RAW image into your Lightroom catalog.
As always, here are the rules for this week:
- Only Lightroom or Camera RAW may be used
- No Photoshop or external plugins
- Color and monochrome images are allowed
- Couple of hints and tips in the video
- Save as a JPEG of 800px at the longest side
- Email your version of the image to firstname.lastname@example.org
- For more info make sure to check out the video above
So there you have it. Not as difficult as last week’s file and one that I am sure will result in some pretty awesome images!
Big shout out to Mark, Adrian and Adam for the RAW files they have submitted over the last few weeks. If you have a RAW file you would like to submit drop it to me in an email at email@example.com and I will make a plan to get it into one of the upcoming videos.
I look forward to receiving all your landscape images during the week! Enjoy!!
Until next time.
