Negative Space is Not Negative

Negative space is the space around and between the subject(s) of an image.

The use of negative space is a key element of artistic composition, and when used correctly, can add a certain mystery to an image or give the viewer a sense of scale.

Telephoto lenses make it very easy for us to the fill the frame with our wildlife subjects, but in order to include more space, step back, use a wider lense, and include some negative space in your images.

Negative space is not negative.

Use it!

Until next time.
