The Mara Triangle is home to an incredible array of wildlife, even outside of the Great Migration. As the long rains fall, afternoons in the Mara are dominated by massive thunderstorms, providing dramatic backgrounds and some of the most incredible light you could ever wish for. Combined with the lush green grass, this is a photographers dream as the washed out brown tones so often seen during the migration season are replaced by a vibrant array of colour.
The big cats have been without the migratory herds for the last 6 months and are having to work extra hard to provide for their youngsters as they wait for the herds to return in a couple of months time. This means action.
Whether you’ve visited the Mara many times before or you simply want to experience this incredible, iconic destination outside of the peak season, this safari will showcase the magic of the east african plains and provide you with incredible photographic opportunities.
Day 1: Our flight from Wilson airport to the Mara Triangle departs mid morning and, for guests on international flights arriving after 07:00, we recommend overnighting at the Weston Hotel the night before the safari (we can assist with this). A 45 minute scenic flight takes us to the heart of the Mara Triangle Conservancy where we will head out on a short drive before checking into the Mara Serena Safari Lodge for lunch.
The day ends with a full afternoon in the Mara Triangle.
Day 2 to 6: Packed breakfasts are the order of the day as we look to make the most of our time in the field returning to the lodge only for lunch before heading out for the afternoon safari. Your host will prioritise sightings based on the photographic potential that each has to offer and will, together with our team of local guides, ensure that you are able to experience and capture the raw beauty of the Mara during this special time of year.
Day 7: Another full morning drive before light lunch and an afternoon flight back to Wilson airport where you will be met and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International airport for any onward travel plans you might have.
