Description

Halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole lies Svalbard – one the world’s most spectacular wilderness and wildlife areas.

For this incredible adventure we will be using the M/S Stockholm, a small expedition ship built specifically for Arctic waters.  A smaller ship like this offers you an entirely different experience that the one you will get on a larger, more conventional cruise ship.

Nimble and flexible, they allow us to make regular landfalls with on sturdy Zodiacs and explore the polar wilderness and it’s spectacular wildlife.  Our exact route and activities will be determined by weather and ice conditions and wildlife sightings.

As a member of our Svalbard Expedition you will be on standby for photographic action at all times.  Sometimes you may be woken in the early hours of the morning as we sail past a glorious iceberg on a smooth sea – a sight not to be missed.

Other times we might wake you in the middle of a bright night because a polar bear has been spotted in it’s amazing white domain.

May / June is characterised by a lot of snow and a wonderful purity.  It is still spring in the Arctic and Polar Bear cubs and seals can sometimes be seen on the I’ve of the fjords in front of the glaciers. The mighty pack is not far away.

Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: We will meet at the M/S Stockholm at around 16h00 for embarkation a safety briefing after which we will set sail as we start our arctic adventure.

Day 2 to 10:  The nine days of our Svalbard Photo Safari will be spent on the M/S Stockholm exploring the fjords, glaciers and other incredible landscapes of the Svalbard Archipelago.  The exact day-to-day itinerary is very flexible and will be determined by photographic opportunities, weather conditions and the density of the pack ice in the North.  All meals will be enjoyed on the boat.

The Stockholm makes for great photography – and we will do quite a bit of photography from the boat – but we will also do numerous zodiac excursions and island landings.

The daily itinerary will be discussed each night at dinner and again at breakfast which, with the help of the captain and ship staff, will give us the ability to focus on and work the sightings we get and also look for specific subjects which we have a very good chance of photographing up close.

During the cruise there will be times when we travel at sea just to get to the next location but this makes for great time to work on your image catalog, relax in your cabin or take landscape images of the incredible landscapes that Svalbard is so well known for.

On the last evening of our photo safari we will get back to Longyearbyen late in the evening.

Nothing can prepare you for Svalbard.

It is the Arctic North as you always dreamed it existed.

An icy wonder-world, a scenery so thrillingly different to anything else you’ve ever experienced.

From Polar Bears and Walruses to Arctic Foxes and innumerable flocks of birds, this photo expedition promises not only unbelievable photo opportunities but memories that will last you a lifetime
