The year has barely started but things are happening so I thought a blog post with some updates and news is in order!
Before I get going I thought I would post a quick wildlife image I found this morning while going through some images for a marketing campaign we are working on.
This image was taken in the Masai Mara last year and damn, I cannot wait to get back their later this year. Amazing powerful stuff and amazing photographic opportunities!
Anyway, let’s get back to the updates!
2012 Wild Eye Nature Photography Competition
It’s finally here!
Our exciting wildlife and nature photography competition starts tomorrow, Friday 6 January 2012. If you have been following us on Twitter and Facebook you will know that this competition has some amazing prizes on offer with the overall grand prize being a photographic expedition for two to the Masai Mara in 2013 to photograph the Great Migration. This includes return flights from Johannesburg to Nairobi, scenic flights from Nairobi to the Masai Mara and seven amazing days photographing the greatest wildlife show on earth!
Other prizes include weekends away for two people at 5 star lodges, photographic gear and vouchers for equipment rentals to mention but a few.
I am also very excited to announce our international judges for this competition. These three judges are amazing nature photographers, very well respected in the industry and we could not have asked for more qualified and knowledgeable people to assist us in choosing the monthly winners and runners up. Our judges are:
Andy Biggs (US)
David Lloyd (UK)
Greg du Toit (RSA)
During next week I will be doing a blog post on the judges with short biographies, profile pictures and links to their sites so you can view some of their work as well.
All the competition rules, T&C’s and other details will be posted on the website later today so make sure to check back soon and get your images ready for this exciting competition!
Right, before I carry on another quick wildlife image from late last year.
Not a subject I photograph all that often but in and around the Chobe river they are everywhere! These young ones were never relaxed enough for us to get close up images but there are many opportunities for animals in their environment for not only crocs but other species like elephant and hippo as well.
Wild Eye Social Media
As you probably know, we at Wild Eye are very active on social media as it is a fantastic way to share our passions – photography, wildlife and travel.
There are a lot of companies that use social media purely to try and force-market their products and services and while this is most definitely one approach to social media our aim is to share our experiences, start conversations and create a open and friendly knowledge base which will hopefully add value to our followers who are also keen to indulge their passion for photography and travel. And if you are keen to chat about course or workshops we are there to listen! 😉
If you have not yet done so, you can join the conversation on our Facebook Page where we post new images, interesting updates and also links to all the new blog posts Andrew and I post on Wild Eye.
We are also very active on Twitter where you can follow the Wild Eye feed where we also share all the latest blog posts as well as new images posted to the Wild Eye Gallery and other industry related news. For more of the same updates, and some very random and fun updates, you can check out Andrew and my feeds as well and as with all social media platfoms if you enjoy the content please feel free to share!
One of our latest social platforms is the Wild Eye Gallery. This image sharing website is a fantastic way to share your images, comment on other photographers images and learn more about the various aspects that make a good wildlife and nature image. It is a fun and friendly site and the quality of images that have already been uploaded is amazing! From tomorrow the Wild Eye Gallery will be playing host to the competition mentioned above so even if you are not keen on entering (?) you can still pop in to appreciate some amazing wildlife images!
So, that’s about it.
Make sure to check out the details on the competition later today and start getting those images ready.
Last thing before I wrap it up. The Photo Chat and Talking Travel videos will be back online from Monday next week! Loads of exciting things lined up for this year so make sure to stay tuned.
Gonna leave you with a small taste of the new look Photo Chat video.
Until next time.
