After a while pretty much any wildlife sighting will, after a while, become photographically ordinary. You will have ‘banked’ a few images and you will find yourself repeating compositions and ways you shoot the scene.
It is during these times that you need to think out of the box and look for different types of images. After watching a large ellie drink for a while, our vantage point from an underground hide made it possible to look for something else.
Repetitive behaviour is one of the best ways to plan your shots, and after seeing that the elephant was quite a messy drinker, I manually focused on the area where most of the water splashed onto the floor. It took a few attempts, but in the end I got the image I was after.
Never stop shooting. Never stop trying new things!
Until next time.Gerry van der Walt
