Do you know what the worst compliment is that someone can give me about one of my images?
“Man, that is the sharpest image I’ve ever seen!”
Seriously, it would really cut me deep me if that was the only thing my images were able to convey. The sad thing is that a lot of people out there seem to think get so obsessed with creating sharp images and the technical settings that makes this possible that, with apologies to Ansel Adams here, they end up with sharp images of very fuzzy concepts, ideas and subjects.
Yes it’s important but a sharp image does not necessarily translate to a good image. On the contrary. Some of the sharpest images I have seen are pretty damn boring and doesn’t make me feel anything.
Think about it. At what point is an image sharp enough for us to stop worrying about it?
I’m sure you’ve heard people say that you cannot be half pregnant.
You either are or you’re not.
Doesn’t the same apply to sharpness in photography?
Until next time.
