Its time to get your camera ready, your finger’s poised on the shutter, questions on the tip of your tongue and join the Wild Eye team for a morning of photography and fun at Montecasino Bird Gardens.

We understand that not everyone has the time, the finances, or both to go travelling and explore the nature that we love with our camera’s in tow.

In order to bridge this gap and create a space where you can go explore and take photos with the guidance and tuition of professional photographers, Wild Eye has collaborated with Montecasino Bird Gardens where the Wild Eye team will take you on a photographic outing around the Bird Gardens.

This is a perfect opportunity to practice and utilise the knowledge and skills that you have previously been taught, hone in on the skills that you have been itching to try and conquer, or just practice taking images of birds with the Wild Eye team willing and waiting to assist you, answer questions and just be there to help improve your photography.

The variety of birds coupled with the diversity of scenery creates a wonderful place to practice and challenge yourself photographically. From easy subjects like parrots sitting on a branch looking at you curiously, ducks swimming around in the vast ponds, to birds flying around in the aviary… the photographic opportunities are endless!

As this is not a course or workshop, but a photo walk around the Bird Gardens, the cost is R53 which is the standard entry fee for Montecasino Bird Gardens.

We are officially starting our first Montecasino Bird Gardens Photo Walk on Sunday 4 August. There is no need to book, just show up with your cameras and smiles! We will meet at the Bird Gardens entrance at 10:00am where we will then go into the Gardens and start the day. After an hour of exploring the Gardens, we will convene at the Amphitheatre to watch the Flight of Fantasy bird shows. This is a perfect opportunity to play around with different shutter speeds when capturing the birds in flight as you can freeze their motion, blur it, or play around with panning!

The Wild Eye team will then stick around until 12pm, where you are more than welcome to pick their brains for photography tips, information you want, or ask them any questions that you have.

The dates for the Montecasino Bird Gardens Photo Walk are as follows:

  • Sunday 4 August at 10:00am
  • Sunday 6 October at 10:00am
  • Sunday 1 December at 10:00am

We suggest you bring lenses that have the magnification of anything between 18-200 and 100-400. Try to at least have a focal length of 200 to 400mm so that you can get up close to the birds that are further away. If you don’t have these focal lengths, don’t fret and feel that you cant participate! We rent a variety of lenses in order for our customers to never miss out.

Come join Wild Eye for a fun morning of photographing at the Montecasion Bird Gardens!

What a great idea!!! I would love to join, as I am still struggling with bird photography….. The birds in my garden don’t want to pose until I get the right camera settings…. 🙂
Unfortunately there is a breakfast run planned for Sunday as well….. Tough decision…. 50:50 chance that I will join you!
