I am a firm believer that the more you know the better it gets and this mindset has been a part of the Wild Eye social media content and blog posts for more than 6 years now.
Since the very beginning, even before Wild Eye when I was running Photo Africa, the idea with the Facebook posts and subsequent videos was to not only give me a way of documenting my journey and telling my story but also to add value to whoever ended up taking the time to consume the content.
When I did the first Photo Chat video I was absolutely petrified – seriously, I had to redo the first video like 10 times!! – but I felt that I had something to say and deep down I knew there were people out there that would enjoy the content. Wildlife photography is an incredible pleasure and privilege and if I could share that with even one person I would have been overjoyed.
From the very beginning the feedback was amazing and as the various platforms – Facebook, YouTube and Twitter were the only ones back then – so did I.
My videos got a bit better – I was still pretty nervous though – and I started doing Lightroom tutorials as well. My Facebook posts evolved to a blog. Instagram became a thing. I did a 50 episode Wildlife Photography Q&A video series. Snapchat happened. Photo Africa evolved into Wild Eye. The game changed.
Now, with an incredible team of guides and support staff we have, as a team, been able to create one of the most dynamic and regularly updated online wildlife photography brands out there. And the thing that makes me really proud is that we add value. Yes, we try and sell safaris because that’s what we do but compared to the majority of other operators out there we add value to our online community. Like the tagline says, we try to change the way you see the world and that goes for both on a safari with us as well as online.
It has been a helluva ride and even though the platform have changed, and will continue to change, our goal at Wild Eye, my goal, is to keep adding value to your wildlife photography journey.
Being a specialist photographic guide I travel a lot and it’s during one of many plane rides that I listened to a number of different non-wildlife photography related podcast that there is a gap. As soon as I landed I started looking around and I could not find any dedicated, focused wildlife photography podcasts and the rest, as they say, is history.
Last year I recorded 106 episode of The Wildlife Photography Podcast and I have loved the experience. Yes, it was a learning curve and there was a bit of nerves but audio has presented a brand new way for the Wild Eye team and I to share our passion and add value, experience and knowledge to our community.
I have recorded podcasts episodes at home, at the office, in Olso and New York and even while walking the dogs and I am super excited to share a lot more ideas and new features this coming year. So many ideas! #WatchThisSpace
